tag; invalid names, e.g. too many LEGO Marvel Superheroes also carries over a large number of features that were included in LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes. For instance, heat-related characters can destroy gold bricks, rocket-using characters can destroy silver bricks, super heroes that have the power of flight in the comic books can fly in the game, and characters with super strength can destroy or manipulate LEGO objects that normal characters cannot. LEGO Marvel Super Heroes includes some new powers and abilities as well, however. For example, Spider-Man has his "spider senses" that allow him to locate hidden bricks required for advancing the gameplay in levels, and the "big-figs" like the Hulk and Abomination can destroy or manipulate objects in ways even different than characters with normal super strength. Not counting DLC characters, there are over 100 playable characters in the game.[6]
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, like its two predecessors LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes and LEGO The Lord of the Rings: The Video Game, contains a large open world that also acts as the game's hub. The open world is the Marvel universe version of New York, and it also includes a helicarrier above the city that one can access. Players may at any time in the game skydive from the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier down to New York hub. In the open world, players can also find the side-levels separate from the main storyline. These are hidden throughout New York City that feature characters not in the main story, have a comic style intro and outro, and are narrated by Deadpool.
Still more features from past LEGO games return in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, albeit slightly changed. There was a character creator that is much more advanced than in previous games: in LEGO Marvel Super Heroes, players can choose what abilities they want their character to have, such as super strength, flight, etc (by equipping things like Magneto's helmet, Wolverine's claws, ect.). Certain pieces can also be recolored to make the character look more like whoever the player is trying to create, and players can save up to 12 custom characters at a time. The minikits return as well, with 10 in each level. By finding all 10 for a level, a unique comic book is unlocked, something that differs from past games where a small LEGO build (or, in the case of LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars, a minifigure) is unlocked instead.[7] In addition, the red power bricks are now known as "Deadpool" bricks. When players find one, then they can buy it off of Deadpool in his room aboard the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier.[7] Also the citizen in peril is replaced by "Stan Lee in Peril" and if you find all 50, Stan Lee will be unlocked as a playable character.
One of the major difference between current (PS3, Xbox 360, etc.) and next generation (Wii U, PS4, Xbox One) versions is there are no loading times. It's instant because it comes straight off the hard drive.[8]

Plot
The game begins as Galactus is eating the remains of a destroyed planet. Still hungry, he sends his herald Silver Surfer to find him more food. The Surfer's search leads him to Earth, where he is chased by S.H.I.E.L.D. and Iron Man. Silver Surfer is knocked out of the sky by Doctor Doom with his surfboard shattering into several "Cosmic Bricks" that fall onto the Earth. With these blocks containing immense power, Doctor Doom captures the powerless Surfer and forges an alliance with Loki and other villains to collect the Cosmic Bricks and make the powerful "Doom Ray of Doom" - which Doom intends to use to both stop Galactus from devouring Earth as well as to rule the planet. However, S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury calls upon the superheroes of the Marvel Universe to retrieve the bricks before they can be captured by Doom and his army.
Abomination and Sandman hold the entire Grand Central Station hostage in search of a Cosmic Brick, and it draws the attention of Iron Man and The Hulk, who are later aided by Spider-Man in defeating Sandman and thus securing the Cosmic Brick.
Fury then tasks Captain America and Mister Fantastic in finding more bricks, and the two head to the Baxter Building, which has fallen under the control of Doctor Octopus. When the fight goes through the Daily Bugle, Spider-Man returns to aid the two heroes. The heroes defeat Doctor Octopus at Times Square, but the Cosmic Brick is stolen by the Green Goblin, who takes it with him to Oscorp Tower.
Fury tasks Black Widow and Hawkeye with finding the Cosmic Brick while Spider-Man heads to Oscorp in pursuit of the Green Goblin. The three are forced to face Venom inside Oscorp's underground lab while the Goblin once again escapes.
Wolverine works with Iron Man and the Hulk to secure the Raft, a maximum-security prison being raided by escaped prisoners, including Red Skull, Whiplash, Rhino, Abomination, Carnage, Leader, and Sabretooth, all of whom the heroes have to take down. Magneto is revealed to be a mastermind behind the mass breakout, and quickly makes his escape from the facility with the help of Mystique. After Magneto uses his powers to destroy Iron Man's armor, Stark goes with Captain America to Stark Tower to retrieve a new suit.
When Captain America and Iron Man arrive at Stark Tower, The Mandarin attacks the tower with Loki, Aldrich Killian, and several Extremis Soldiers, forcing Stark to initiate the "House Party Protocol", using his suits to defeat his nemesis. During the battle however, Loki steals one of Iron Man's miniature arc reactors.
Tracking the Arc Reactor's energy signature, S.H.I.E.L.D sends Black Widow, Hawkeye and Human Torch to the Empire State Building, where they infiltrate an underground HYDRA base there and defeat the Red Skull and Arnim Zola with the help of Captain America and Wolverine. Loki once again escapes using a portal to Asgard, built by HYDRA and powered by the Arc Reactor he stole, while the portal itself is accidentally destroyed during the battle.
Captain America, the Human Torch, and Wolverine meet Thor who takes them to Asgard to find Loki. Upon arrival at the Bifrost Bridge, they find that Loki has allied himself with the Frost Giants and they fight their way to Loki's domain, where Loki enhances his powers with the Tesseract. Loki unleashes The Destroyer armor on the heroes, but they disable the Destroyer while Loki escapes. While the others argue about what to do with the Tesseract, Wolverine uses the distraction to steal it.
Wolverines take the Tesseract to Professor X at the X-Mansion hoping it will help them find Magneto. The mansion is attacked by Magneto and his Brotherhood of Mutants. Jean Grey, Cyclops, Storm, Iceman, and Beast work together to rescue trapped students and defeat Toad, Pyro, Juggernaut, and the Acolytes. However, Magneto and Mystique escape with the Tesseract.
Fury decides to initiate Operation: Latveria to go and stop Doctor Doom. Fury, Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, and Thing travel to Castle Doom to find him, but instead battle the Green Goblin. When the group find Doctor Doom, Loki collapses a pile of rocks on top of them before he and Doctor Doom escape with the bricks. However, Fury and the Fantastic Four are able to rescue the Silver Surfer.
Iron Man, Spider-Man and Thor head to a submarine where they defeat M.O.D.O.K. and his forces, being aided by Jean Grey in an attempt to find Doctor Doom underwater following the submarine's destruction. Magneto, on the other hand, uses his powers to take control of the Statue of Liberty, bringing it to life and using it to attack Hulk, Mister Fantastic, and Wolverine. The heroes get trapped inside the statue and make it to its head, where they encounter and defeat Mastermind. Unfortunately, Lady Liberty literally loses her head in the fight.
Believing Magneto to be on Asteroid M Island, Fury sends Captain America and the Thing there, and with the help of Storm, they defeat Magneto's Acolytes along with Velociraptors from the Savage Land and Rhino. Mystique is revealed to be disguising as Magneto to lure the heroes to the island while the real Magneto continues with his plan, raising Asteroid M into space (although Captain America, the Thing and Storm all manage to slip on-board).
Doctor Doom and Loki arrive on Asteroid M and continue building the Doom Ray with their plan nearing completion. Iron Man, Spider-Man and Thor arrive there and fight Magneto, defeating him, but Iron Man and Thor are incapacitated by Doctor Doom in the process. Spider-Man goes on with Captain America, the Thing and Storm and they defeat Doctor Doom. With only Loki left, he reveals his elaborate scheme to harness the power of Galactus to destroy both Earth and Asgard, with Doctor Doom and the other villains merely been used to do his bidding. Loki uses the Doom Ray, shown to instead be a craft powered by the Cosmic Bricks and the Tesseract, to control Galactus. The heroes narrowly escape Asteroid M as Galactus destroys it before he heads towards New York.
With no other options left, Fury assembles the heroes (consisting of Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Mister Fantastic, Thing, Human Torch, Cyclops, and Storm) and villains (consisting of Doctor Doom, Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Venom, Abomination, Magneto, and Mystique) together in order to defeat Galactus on the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, splitting the combined forces into several teams. After a long battle, Galactus and Loki are warped into a large portal, thus trapping both of them into an unknown part of space while Thor shatters the mind-control craft with his hammer. Fury also retrieves the Tesseract in the process.
With Earth now safe, the heroes make an agreement with the villains to give them time to escape before they are pursued by the superheroes. With all the Cosmic Bricks collected and reassembled back into his surfboard, the Silver Surfer thanks the heroes for defeating Galactus and departs on his surfboard into deep space, promising to lead Galactus away from Earth.
In a mid-credits scene, Fury oversees the repair of the Statue of Liberty while receiving surprise visits from the Guardians of the Galaxy who showed up late to help fight Galactus. Nick Fury also finds Black Panther's pet cat Mr. Tiddles as Black Panther thanks him for stopping Galactus.

References
- There are references to a few non-Marvel movies and franchises:
- Sandman says the famous melting line said by the Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz, replacing melting with solidifying. (although he first said melting and then corrected himself)
- When Thing, Mr. Fantastic, and the Invisible Woman jump out of the Fantasticar, Mr. Fantastic becomes a parachute, similar to Elastigirl from "The Incredibles". Mr. Fantastic even goes to the point of saying he saw it in a movie once.
- In the circus bonus mission, Black Widow quotes Harley Quinn's line from before her boss fight in the hub world of LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes.
- Human Torch mentions that the Bifrost makes him want to go race, a reference to the "Rainbow Road" track in the Mario Kart series.
- The TARDIS from Doctor Who appears in an area reminiscent of a time vortex as the heroes travel to Asgard.
- The level name "Red Head Detention" is a parody of the Rockstar game Red Dead Redemption.
- Onboard the Helicarrier, a mini-mission has the player clear the hangar of snakes, a reference to Snakes on a Plane.
- During Tony Stark's party, Nick Fury will say "And you will KNOW I am the DJ when I lay my beats down on you!" which is a reference to Samuel L. Jackson's role in Pulp Fiction.
- During the opening credits scene, a space probe carrying a LEGO dog and bone briefly appears. This is a reference to the first dog in space, Laika.
- After defeating Venom, Spider-Man jokingly calls Hawkeye "LEGO-las," a reference to the Lord of the Rings character Legolas, who also uses a bow and arrows.
- On Asgard, upon seeing The Destroyer, Wolverine remarks that the Tin Man (Iron Man) should see it, a reference to the Wizard of Oz character Tin Man.
- At one point in the game, Hawkeye says, "It looks like… they're coming out of the walls!" a reference to the movie Aliens.
- The achievement " Falling... with Style" might be a reference to the first Toy Story movie, in which Buzz Lightyear tries to prove that he can fly, but ends up bouncing off a ball, riding on a race track and spinning around on a toy plane, which Woody states is "falling with style"
- The level, "The Good, The Bad and The Hungry" is based on the 1966 Western movie, "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly".
